Is your skin getting enough sleep at night?

Is your skin getting enough sleep at night?  Did you know that sleep deprivation can negatively affect your skin?

Let's take a closer look at sleep and how it can affect your skin health.

The importance of sleep:

  • Lack of sleep causes:

    • Increase in cortisol (stress hormone) levels, which increases inflammation

    • Dark under eye circles

    • Compromised skin barrier

    • Premature aging

  • At night, our skin enters regeneration mode:

    • Collagen production increases

    • Skin renewal rate increases

    • Cell production increase

  • Tips for better sleep:

    • Turn your phone off at least an hour before going to sleep

    • Engage in meditation or calming activities to manage stress

    • Try setting a schedule to sleep at the same time each day

    • Avoid drinking or eating a few hours before going to sleep

Skin Tip  ✨  Wash your face and do your nightly skin routine shortly after dinner, not right before bedtime.  Having an earlier routine allows the valuable nutrients to penetrate your skin and not end up on your pillowcase.  My goal - go to bed looking like a glazed-donut 🍩
